PDE appointed as subcontractor on advanced battery-based Energy Storage Facility.

Project Design Engineers Ltd has been appointed subcontractor for works on the new 10MW lithium-ion Battery Storage Facility at Kilroot Power Station, owned by energy giant AES.  The new storage facility is the company’s first in the UK and could mean cheaper electricity if its bid to harness the full power of Northern Ireland’s wind energy resource is successful.

Adrian Watson, Managing Director of PDE, states “We are delighted to be involved with such a significant development at AES Kilroot.  Energy Storage represents a major component of future Energy systems and is an important tool in achieving a low-carbon future, this is certainly something that PDE are excited to be part of.

Project Design Engineers are providing expertise and various professional services in the guise of technical drawings, overall project management and HSE guidance with the project.”

The ‘Kilroot Advancion’ Energy Storage Array will provide 10MW of interconnected energy storage, equivalent to 20MW of flexible resource.  The Array is expected to enter operation late 2015.
