The purpose of this project was to provide an automation scheme for the motorised operation of all Rivers Agency vertical lift sluice gates operating on the Lower River Bann. The project comprised 13 sluice gates in 3 sets, across 3 individual locations.

The project involved the installation of 3 phase actuators, which were fitted to the existing mechanisms. Purpose-built electrical distribution boards and control panels were installed at all 3 locations. New telephone line installations for remote monitoring were included, with broadband access for control of all gates remotely. Site security and CCTV installations with central recording facilities were provides and telemetry alarms to other locations were established.

PDE were appointed Designer and Principal Contractor for the project. As built documentation, O&M manuals, Staff Training and On-going maintenance were also included in the project.
