Action Cancer Fundraising: Centra Run Together 5K

Every year our staff nominate a charity to support and Action Cancer was the choice for 2019.  Action Cancer is Northern Ireland’s leading local cancer charity working to save lives and support people affected by cancer. It relies heavily on public donations to provide life-saving services including early detection clinics, health promotion, research, counselling and complementary therapies.

This year we wanted to boost our fundraising efforts and get more staff involved, so we developed a calendar of events to be held throughout the year.  This month we had 3 members of staff sign up to run the Centra Run Together 5k which was held yesterday at Ormeau Park, Belfast.  Joe, Martin and Rachel raised over £500 from the kind donations of staff, family members and friends.

We are delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile cause and raising much-needed funds and awareness for the services that Action Cancer provide.

Celebrating 30 great years!

This month we are celebrating 30 years of designing and delivering innovative engineering solutions for a wide range of clients across Ireland, the UK and Europe.

Project Design Engineers was started by our founding directors Seamus Murray and Colin Younge, back in October 1989.  They started Project Design Engineers with the vision of becoming a leading engineering design consultancy and it wasn’t long before this vision became a reality.  Starting with 3 clients and 3 projects, today we have completed work for over 370 clients, worked on over 4000 projects, totalling well over 1.5 million hours.

Reflecting on this exciting milestone our current managing director Adrian Watson had this to say;

“I have been lucky to have been part of the PDE family for 28 of the 30 years that we have been in business and it has been amazing to watch how far we have come.

We have been involved in many exciting projects over the years, however the ones that stick out for me are the project we completed at the LSS Oil Terminal in Derry/Londonderry which involved transitioning a former brownfield site into a fully operational ship fed terminal and the design and build project we completed at the AFSC Oil Terminal in Foynes.

More recently our involvement in renewable energy projects has been an exciting shift for the company, we completed four biomass boiler projects for prestigious distilleries in Scotland and managed the UK’s largest battery energy storage project.

We wouldn’t have made this milestone without our loyal clients, suppliers and staff, we are truly thankful for the long-lasting relationships we have been able to build and will continue to build over the years”.

The last 30 years have been an exciting journey for Project Design Engineers and the next 30 promise to be just as exciting!  You can read more about our journey over the last 30 years here.

Retirement Celebrations!

Today marked the end of an era here at PDE as we gathered to wish David Williamson a happy retirement.  David joined Project Design Engineers back in 1991 and has been an asset to the PDE family over the last 28 years.

Staff and management gathered to wish David farewell over morning tea, which was filled with laughter and lots of reminiscing.

When asked what plans he had for his retirement he simply responded: ‘I am easily pleased, I hope to be able to enjoy the remainder of the summer and get out for a few walks and picnics.  I am looking forward to being able to plan trips to see my kids whenever I want, and I will be able to spend more time with my wonderful wife!’

David will be missed by all of us here at Project Design Engineers, but we know he will have a fun and fruitful retirement!

Celebrating 25 years of service!

We would like to recognize the dedication and hard work of Colin Smith and Jim Sinclair who have been part of the Project Design Engineers family for 25 years! Colin and Jim have been an integral part of the team since joining back in 1994 and we are delighted to be able to celebrate this milestone with them.

To all our Clients, Suppliers and Other Associates,

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support throughout 2018 and we look forward to working with you in 2019.

In the spirit of offering a little goodwill at this time of year, we will be donating to Action Cancer (NI).

Please note we will be taking a short break  from Monday 24th December 2018 until Wednesday 2nd January 2019.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind Regards,

Adrian Watson
Managing Director

2018 is designated as ‘The Year of Engineering’ by the UK Government, to introduce young people to the world of engineering.

To recognise this the IMechE Northern Ireland Regional Committee is running a series of six events from the 9th to 18th October, covering a variety of aspects of engineering, which will be inspirational and demonstrate to all age groups but in particular young people, that engineering is diverse, creative, exciting and important to society.

Project Design Engineers are fully supportive of the campaign, encouraging staff, clients and suppliers to show their support by attending an event.

Patrick Kelly, PDE Director and current Chairperson of the IMechE Northern Ireland Regional Committee had this to say about the initiative:

“As a regional committee it was imperative that we fully engaged with the campaign.  A lot of research and consideration has been invested into devising an inclusive event programme within Northern Ireland, which we hope will showcase the breadth and diversity of Engineering.

It is anticipated that the UK-wide campaign will encourage young people from all backgrounds to take a closer look at engineering, challenge the stereotypes and ultimately showcase the variety and creativity of this forward-looking and innovative sector.

As current Chairperson of the Regional Committee for Northern Ireland, I personally look forward to attending the events and meeting all our local, potential Engineers of the future.”

Schneider Electric have recently announced that active sales of the TSX Premium CPUs & I/O modules and PL7 programming software will cease in December 2018*.  Original correspondence reference this notification is attached, for your information.

Should you currently operate the above system hardware, we would strongly recommend you consider a spares holding for your installed hardware, which will offer a level of security going forward.  To assist, PDE can provide a comprehensive ‘Hardware Audit’ and ‘Recommended Spares Holding’ inventory.

Alternatively, you may wish to consider a longer-term solution.  As an official ‘Integrator of Schneider Electric’, PDE can assist you with defining an efficient migration path to future-proof your PLC control systems, including an upgrade to the latest range of high performance Schneider processors.

Please get in touch to arrange a consultation, telephone 02894 483000 or email info@pde.co.uk

* Please note whilst Schneider Electric has committed to supporting & servicing these products for a further 8 years, they have recommended that all final purchase orders should be placed by Summer 2018.
